2017~ Installation (bacteria, bluegill, water, vegetables, tubes, etc)
“サンルーム” は雨水、水耕栽培の植物、魚、バクテリア、イトメ、緑藻、溶岩、稲など、それぞれに水が循環すること
によりひとつの生態系を維持するプロジェクトです。太陽の Sun とフランス語で血を意味する sang、そして聖なる Saint の意味に象徴された、水耕栽培の野菜と複数の水槽
をチューブで繋げるサンルームは、魚と植物、そして微生物が水によって循環するシステムです。
電力に依存したこの維持装置はそのエネルギーが続く限り環境を保ち続けます。
人工物が人の手から離れ、合理的な意味を乗り越えて各々の野生に戻る姿を擬似的に成立させたこの作品は、2017年から絶えることなく維持継続され、システムが機能し続ける限り半永久的に続けられます。
制作当初、皇居濠の水や水生物、皇居内周辺の雑草で構成されていた “サンルーム” ですが、現在は、雨水、魚、固定種
の野菜に変化し、ホースの円環上に連なることで中心のない運動を展開しています。ロランバルトが『表象の帝国』で記した” 空虚な中心 “はまさにこの皇居を中心とした東京の都市を指した概念ですが、“サンルーム” ではその解釈を日本のエコロジカルな精神性へと拡張します。
“Sans room” , which title symbolically connoting “Sun” , “Sang” (blood in French), and “Saint” (holy in French), is
an artificial system of microbial circulation; a device which connects a hydroponic greenhouse with water tanks by
water circulating tubes . This artificial system would keep the environ going as sustainable as the electric power
lasts. Within that, complex power struggles take place every day as plants, fish, and bacteria constantly expanding
their territory and being pushed away. The enclosed space is metaphor for where I was born, the centre of
Tokyo; what a French philosopher Roland Barthes metaphorically described as void in his book “Lʼ Empire des
signes” (1970). Fukiage Gyoen (Fukiage Imperial Gardens) Having being isolated from the city of Tokyo by a moat,
was once used as a golf course before Emperor Showa decided to return this area to nature in 1937. This vast
off-limit area has formed a particularly unique ecosystem of enriched and distinct flora and fauna found in the very
heart of Tokyo for almost 85 years. In that dense forest, there is the main residence of the Emperor of Japan: a
symbol of Japan whose life has been artificially extended. The succession of the pure-blooded Imperial
Family has been endangered in recent years. in contrary to the bluegill, hybrid freshwater fish of North America,
which was transplanted by the then-crown prince, Akihito in post-war Japan 1960.
