1992年に制定された通称「種の保存法」、正式名称“絶滅のおそれのある野生動植物の種の保存に関する法律“に関する国会の議事録を元に、自動音声によって議論を編集。議論の中心となった種の骨を国立科学博物館の協力のもと3Dスキャンし、そのデータをカービングしてディテールを上げる作国家が定める「自然」とは何かを示唆する本作からは、「理想の生態系」形成のための生物の保護と排除という、自然と人間の関係からナショナリズムそのものが見てとれる。
Red is a video-work that examines what Japan as a nation defines as "nature" by overlaying the proceedings of the Diet on “the Species Conservation Act” with footage of producing discussed species from data.
The Act is officially known as the "Law for the Conservation of Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora" enacted in 1992. The footage is a process of carving and finishing details from 3D scanned data of the bones of the species with the cooperation of the National Museum of Nature and Science. In this work, we can see the nationalism that protects and eliminates natural creatures from a human convenience in order to create the nation's ”ideal ecosystem''.
